1. A record year for Montenegrin airports in 2025.
- In 2025, Montenegro's airports (Podgorica & Tivat) exceeded the 3 million passenger mark for the first time.
- This historic performance confirms the rise in the country's air connectivity and the growing attractiveness of the Adriatic coast.
2. Wizz Air is setting up a base in Podgorica with 14 new routes from 2026!
- From March 2026, Wizz Air will open its 36th base in Europe in Podgorica, with two Airbus A321neo year-round.
- It is launching 14 new direct routes to major European cities: Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Hamburg, Basel-Mulhouse, Cologne, Malmö, etc...
- The offer will total more than 1 million additional seats per year on the Montenegrin market.
- Prices starting from €19 per flight, making it affordable for many travelers!
3. New partners for Tivat airport as well.
In the summer of 2026, British Airways will open a direct London Heathrow - Tivat service several times a week.
Spain continues its development with Iberia launching a seasonal Madrid - Tivat route (in addition to Barcelona since 2025 with Vueling)
SkyUp Airlines will connect Chisinau to Tivat for the 2026 season
4. What does this change for Tivat & the Montenegrin coast?
Even though Wizz Air's base will be in Podgorica, the overall increase in air traffic also benefits the coast, with many travelers landing in Podgorica and then continuing on to Tivat and the Bay of Kotor. The new route between Budva and Tivat will be completed for the 2026 season, reducing travel time between Podgorica Airport and Tivat to just 1 hour and 15 minutes!
- Furthermore, the summer 2025 season saw the opening of more than 90 confirmed routes for Montenegrin airports, which demonstrates strong connectivity even outside the peak season.
- For Tivat Airport, the figures are up, showing 15% more than in 2024.
5. Why 12-month short-term rentals are becoming realistic
5.1. More flights all year round = more potential customers
- Low-cost flights, new routes, increased frequencies: Montenegro is becoming more accessible to a wider audience, all year round. - Low-cost car rental in the off-season (from €5 per day), insurance not included.
- This attracts not only tourists in the summer, but also those looking for long weekends, late-season breaks, or off-season getaways.
5.2. Traveler profile: digital nomads, long-stay travelers, flexible
- Thanks to good connectivity, as well as an attractive cost of living, Montenegro and Tivat are becoming attractive for digital nomads: rentals from 2 weeks to 3 months, no visa required for many countries and the possibility of easily obtaining a digital nomad visa for a longer period.
- For seasonal short-term rentals, this represents a more stable market spread over the year, less dependent on the summer season.
Our conclusion
With the arrival of Wizz Air, 14 new routes, over 1 million additional seats, and the addition of new routes to Tivat, Montenegro is changing dramatically. Tivat and the Adriatic coast are no longer just classic "summer holiday" destinations, but are becoming accessible year-round for short breaks, weekends, or longer stays for vacation rentals.
